If you were to create an artwork about something that seems impossible, what would it look like?

What do you think symbolizes life and humanity?

How would you make art of or with a tree?

GIUSEPPE PENONE

Giuseppe Penone

Giuseppe Penone is an Italian artist and a pioneer of the Arte Povera movement that emerged in the late 1960s. As early as 1970, Pontus Hultén, then director of the Moderna Museet, acquired Penone’s tree sculpture Albero di 12 metri for the museum’s collection. This iconic work has since been included in several exhibitions at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Malmö. Through his sculptures, as well as works in other media, Penone has explored concepts such as time, humanity’s relationship with nature, and his works highlight how the world is interconnected. He is often described as a master of materials, a sculptor with the ability to visualize the invisible and make the impossible possible.
